Divinyl sulphone Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Propertiescolourless liquid
UsesDivinyl sulfone acts as a cross-linking reagent for agarose gels. It is a monomer, which is used in the production of polymers with diols, urea and malonic esters. Further, it serves as a shrinkage control agent in textiles. In addition to this, it is used in the preparation of large class of fiber-reactive dyestuffs.
DefinitionChEBI: A sulfone compound having two S-vinyl substituents.
General DescriptionClear colorless liquid.
Air & Water ReactionsWater soluble.
Reactivity ProfileDivinyl sulphone may react vigorously with strong oxidizing agents. Can react exothermically with reducing agents (such as alkali metals and hydrides) to release gaseous hydrogen or hydrogen sulfide. May react exothermically with both acids and bases. May undergo exothermic polymerization iIn the presence of various catalysts (such as acids) or initiators.
Health HazardACUTE/CHRONIC HAZARDS: Divinyl sulphone may be corrosive.
Fire HazardDivinyl sulphone is combustible.
