Dimethylaminoethyl acrylate Usage And Synthesis
Uses

This compound was used as a reagent for investigating the hydrolytic stability of poly((2-dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) and comparing with the stability of its monomer. The result has been ascribed to a coordination of the protonated dimethylamino group and the ester carbonyl, rendering the ester more susceptible to nucleophilic attack of a hydroxyl ion.

Uses2-(Dimethylamino)ethyl acrylate (AmAc) are aminoacrylates. AmAc was used to fabricate gold/acrylic polymer nanocomposites.1 2-(dimethylamino)ethyl acrylate (DAEA) can undergo copolymerization with 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulphonic acid (AMPS).
General DescriptionA colorless to light yellow liquid with an acrid odor. Insoluble in water and floats on water. Irritates the eyes and produces tears.
Air & Water ReactionsHighly flammable. Insoluble in water. Dimethylaminoethyl acrylate hydrolyzes slowly in water to produce acrylic acid and dimethylaminoethanol.
Reactivity ProfileLachrymater. The reactive groups, in this substance, are the amine and ester and their possible reactivity concerns are listed below: Amines are chemical bases. They neutralize acids to form salts plus water. These acid-base reactions are exothermic. The amount of heat that is evolved per mole of amine in a neutralization is largely independent of the strength of the amine as a base. Amines may be incompatible with isocyanates, halogenated organics, peroxides, phenols (acidic), epoxides, anhydrides, and acid halides. Flammable gaseous hydrogen is generated by amines in combination with strong reducing agents, such as hydrides. Esters react with acids to liberate heat along with alcohols and acids. Strong oxidizing acids may cause a vigorous reaction that is sufficiently exothermic to ignite the reaction products. Heat is also generated by the interaction of esters with caustic solutions. Flammable hydrogen is generated by mixing esters with alkali metals and hydrides.
Health HazardHighly toxic, may be fatal if inhaled, swallowed or absorbed through skin. Contact with molten substance may cause severe burns to skin and eyes. Avoid any skin contact. Effects of contact or inhalation may be delayed. Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Runoff from fire control or dilution water may be corrosive and/or toxic and cause pollution.
Fire HazardDimethylaminoethyl acrylate is flammable.
Flammability and ExplosibilityNon flammable
