UsesDihydropyrenophorin (compound 6) is a macrolide that can be isolated from Pinus strobus (eastern white pine)[1].
Biological ActivityDihydropyrenophorin is a macrolide fungal metabolite and derivative of pyrenophorin originally isolated from D. avenae that has herbicidal and phytotoxic activities.1 It is herbicidal against S. halepense when used at a concentration of 0.065 μM. Dihydropyrenophorin is phytotoxic to a variety of agricultural crops, including barley, sorghum, wheat, and oats, as well as grasses, including goosegrass and Bermuda grass, in leaf puncture assays.
