Fluoroboric acid, is a colorless transparent strong acid, chemical formula HBF4, is the conjugated acid of fluoroborate. Fluoroboric acid is stable in a concentrated solution and decomposes when heated to 130°C. It is miscible with water or organic solvents such as ether. Hydrolyzed slowly in aqueous solution to hydroxy fluoroboric acid (HBF3OH). It is highly corrosive and has a dangerous reaction with alkali metals, but does not corrode glass at room temperature. It can react with metals, metal fluorides, oxides, hydroxides or carbonates to form corresponding fluoroborate salts. The acidity of fluoroborate is similar to that of nitric acid, and fluoroborate ion is a non-oxidizing non-coordination anion.
