Phenothiazines may interfere with the body's ability to thermoregulate, and cause elevated body temperature or reduced body temperature. Abnormally low blood pressure and elevated blood pressure have both been reported; abnormally low blood pressure is the more common serious effect. CNS depression, coma, agitation, extrapyramidal signs, and seizures may occur with overdose. Neuroleptic malignant syndrome has rarely occurred with therapeutic use and overdose. Most phenothiazines are rated pregnancy category C and should be used only when potential therapeutic benefit outweighs potential effects on the fetus. |
