The hypoxanthine phosphoribosyltransferase 1 (HPRT1) antibody is a critical tool for studying the HPRT1 enzyme, encoded by the *HPRT1* gene. This enzyme plays a central role in the purine salvage pathway, catalyzing the conversion of hypoxanthine and guanine into their respective nucleoside monophosphates (IMP and GMP), which are essential for DNA/RNA synthesis and cellular energy metabolism. HPRT1 is widely used as a housekeeping protein in molecular biology due to its consistent expression across tissues, making it a common loading control in Western blotting and normalization reference in qPCR.

HPRT1 deficiency is linked to severe genetic disorders like Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, characterized by neurological dysfunction and hyperuricemia, as well as gouty arthritis. Researchers employ HPRT1 antibodies to investigate these conditions, monitor protein expression in disease models, or validate gene-editing outcomes (e.g., CRISPR knockouts). These antibodies are typically raised in hosts like rabbits or mice, targeting specific epitopes of human HPRT1. and are validated for applications including immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and ELISA. Cross-reactivity with homologs in common model organisms (e.g., mouse, rat) is often confirmed to support translational research. Quality validation via knockdown/knockout samples ensures specificity, critical for accurate data interpretation.
