The SLC2A2 antibody targets the solute carrier family 2 member 2 (SLC2A2) protein, also known as glucose transporter type 2 (GLUT2). Encoded by the SLC2A2 gene, GLUT2 is a facilitative transmembrane transporter responsible for glucose uptake and release across cell membranes. It is predominantly expressed in metabolically active tissues, including the liver, pancreatic β-cells, kidneys, and small intestine, where it plays a critical role in glucose homeostasis. GLUT2 facilitates bidirectional transport of glucose, enabling cells to respond dynamically to blood glucose levels. Dysregulation of SLC2A2/GLUT2 is linked to metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes, Fanconi-Bickel syndrome (a rare glycogen storage disease), and certain cancers.
