Description
Formaldehyde (chemical formula: CH2)) is a colorless, flammable, strong smelling organic compound widely used to make home building products. It is the simplest chemical of the aldehydes. It is an important precursor for the manufacture of many other materials and chemical compounds. It is mainly used for the production of resins such as urea-formaldehyde, which is used to make the adhesive of pressed wood products. It can also act as a preservative for lab, mortuaries and consumer products as it is a tissue fixative. Formaldehyde is manufactured by the catalytic oxidation of methanol with the catalysts of silver metal or the mixture of iron and molybdenum or vanadium oxides.
