Description

Adiponectin, (Acrp30, AdipoQ, GBP-28), is a 244 amino acid protein specifically and highly expressed by adipose cells. Expression of adiponectin is inversely related to the degree of adiposity in which a reduction in serum adiponectin levels are accompanied by an increase in insulin resistance states, such as obesity and type II diabetes mellitus. Adiponectin increases insulin sensitivity and decreases plasma glucose by increasing tissue fat oxidation. This Enzyme Immunometric Assay (EIA) is based on a double-antibody sandwich technique which utilizes a mouse adiponectin-specific monoclonal capture antibody and a HRP-conjugated polyclonal antibody for detection.
