Hydrazine monohydrate was added to an ethanol solution of 2-[(1,1-dioxidotetrahydro-2H-thiopyran-4-yl)methyl]isoindoline-1,3-dione, and the mixture was stirred under reflux. After spontaneous cooling, the thus formed precipitate was removed through celite, and the filtrate was concentrated. Chloroform was added to the resulting residue, the insoluble matter was removed by filtration and then the filtrate was concentrated to obtain (1,1-dioxidotetrahydro-2H-thiopyran-4-yl)methylamine as a brown oil.
