To a solution of l-(2-Bromo-thiazol-5-yl)-propan-l-ol (175 mg, 0.79 mmol) in dichloromethane (10 mL) was added Dess-Martin periodinane (334 mg, 0.79 mmol). The reaction was stirred for 2 h, then diluted with dichloromethane (50 mL), washed with sat. sodium bicarbonate solution (50 mL) and brine (50 mL), dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated. Purification by silica gel chromatography eluting with a gradient of 0-100% ethyl acetate in hexanes gave l-(2-bromo-thiazol-5-yl)-propan-l-one (75 mg, 43%).
