Steps:

Synthesis of 1,3-Bis(Iodomethyl) tetramethyldisiloxane.

A solution of 1,3-bis(chloromethyl)tetramethyl-disiloxane (3 g, 12.97 mmol), sodium iodide (7.78 g, 51.89 mmol) in acetone 50 mL was refluxed at 60 °C for 24 h. The reaction mixture was allowed to cool and filtered. The filtrate was evaporated under reduced pressure and dissolved in dichloromethane. The reaction mixture was filtered. The filtrate was evaporated to remove the dichloromethane. To give 1,3-bis(iodomethyl) tetramethyldisiloxane as a yellow oil, yield 5.21 g (97%).
