Preparation of Compound 42
Under an argon atmosphere, a suspension of 4-(4-bromophenyl)-1-butanol (41) (obtained from the method described in Ando T. et al., Bull. Chem. Soc. Jpn., 1980, 53(8), 2348-2356) (3.44 g, 15 mmol), triphenylphosphine (4.6 g, 17 mmol) and tetrabromomethane (7.5 g, 23 mmol) in dichloromethane (200 mL) was stirred overnight.
The reaction mixture was quenched with water and extracted with dichloromethane (3*).
The combined organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure.
The crude compound was purified by chromatography (Biotage system, silica gel, 0-10% acetone-hexanes) to give 2.43 g (55%) of bromide 42.
