1-AZIDO-3, 3-DIMETHYL-BUTAN-2-OL (4.7 g, 33 mmol) in ethanol (200 ml) is stirred under hydrogenated for 36 h in the presence of 10% palladium on carbon. The catalyst is removed by filtration and the filtrate is evaporated to give the titled compound as a colourless crystalline solid (2.7g, 69%).
