Step 1:
To a solution of l-azaspiro[4.5]decane-2,8-dione (2 g, 12 mmol) in MeOH (24 mL) was added trimethyl orthoformate (1.59 mL, 14.4 mmol) and CSA (0.139 g, 0.598 mmol). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 h. The reaction was quenched with triethylamine and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford 8,8-dimethoxy-l-azaspiro[4.5]decan-2-one as a solid. The material was used as is crude in the next step.
