5-Azidomethyl-benzofuran was hydrogenated with Raney Nickel in tetrahydrofuran. The solution was concentrated under reduced pressure to a yellow oil. The oil was dissolved in ethyl acetate (50 mL), extracted with 1N hydrochloric acid (3×50 mL), pH adjusted to 10 with 1N sodium hydroxide, extracted with ethyl acetate (3×50 mL), dried with magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to a white solid (C-benzofuran-5-yl-methylamine, 0.855 g, 54%).
