Steps:
Preparation of (E) -1,2-bis(2-bromophenyl)ethene
Based on a procedure reported by Kelly et al.2 The mixture of Z/E 1a (0.1014 g, 0.3 mmol) by irradiation (tungsten filament lamp ) in the presence of iodine (0.2286 g, 0.9 mmol) in mfluxing heptanes (2 mL). After 3d, the reaction was washed with Na2S2O3 (2 x 10mL), brine (1 x 5 mL), dried (Na2SO4), concentrated in vacuo and purified by column chromatography (SiO2, hexanes) to yield 1a’ (0.0993 g, 98%) as a white soild.
