[00182] Step 1 : Lithium aluminum hydride (5.46 mL, 5.46 mmol) was slowly added to methyl l-(trifluoromethyl)cyclobutanecarboxylate (0.829 g, 4.55 mmol) in THF (5 mL, 4.55 mmol) at 0 °C. This was then stirred for 2 hours at room temperature. The mixture was quenched at 0 °C with water (1 mL), then 2N NaOH (1 mL), and then water (1 mL) again. The mixture was stirred for 5 minutes at room temperature and then filtered. The filtrate was concentrated down to give (l-(trifluoromethyl)cyclobutyl)methanol (0.70 g, 4.54 mmol, 99.8% yield).
