Steps:
1.21 Preparation of 2 -methoxy-] -(methylsulfonyl)-4-nitrobenzene
(2-Methoxy-4-nitrophenyl)(methyl)sulfane (400 mg, 2.0 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (5 mL) and acetonitrile (5 mL). A solution of Oxone (1.9 g, 12 mmol) in water (10 mL) was added and the mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. The reaction mixture was diluted with water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic layer was dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated under reduced pressure to give 2-methoxy-1-(methylsulfonyl)-4-nitrobenzene as a yellow solid (368 mg, 79%). The product was used in the next step without further purification.
