Preparation of 1 -methyl-6-oxo-1 ,6-dihydropyridine-3-carbaldehyde.
A solution of 5-(1 ,3-dioxolan-2-yl)-1 -methylpyridin-2(1 H)-one (250 mg, 1 .38 mmol) in 3% aqueous HCI (5 mL) was stirred at 100°C for 3 hours. The solution was extracted with DCM (10 mL x 3). The combined organic phases were washed with brine, dried with Na2S04, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to give 1 -methyl-6-oxo-1 ,6-dihydropyridine-3- carbaldehyde (150 mg).
