A stirred solution of 1 ,4,9-trioxadispiro[4.2.5.2]pentadecane (D13, 220mg, 1.04mmole) in tetrahydrofuran (5ml) was treated with 5N HCI acid (15ml) and the mixture stirred at room temperature overnight. The mixture was extracted with Et2O and the extract dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated under vacuum to leave the crude title compound as a colourless oil (165mg, 95%).1H NMR δ (CDCI3, 400MHz): 1.47-1.73 (8H, m), 2.17-2.24 (2H, m), 2.24-2.34 (2H, m), 2.57- 2.70 (2H, m), 3.70-3.80 (2H, m).
