5-Amino-3-(methylsulfanyl)-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxamide obtained in Reference Example 2 (3.0 g) and urea (5.3 g) were stirred at 170°C for two hours. After cooling to room temperature, a 1 M sodium hydroxide solution was added and the solid was dissolved. Then, acetic acid was added to precipitate a solid. The precipitated solid was separated by filtration and dried to obtain 3-(methylsulfanyl)-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine-4,6(5H,7H)-dione (colorless solid) (3.4 g, quant.). MS(ESI):197(M-H)-
