Steps:

ill Step (ill): 4,5,7,8-Tetrahydro-1H,6H-imidazo[4,5-d]azepine

4,5,7,8-Tetrahydro-1H,6H-imidazo[4,5-d]azepine 25.4 mmol of 6-benzyl-4,5,7,8-tetrahydro-1H-imidazo[4,5-d]azepine are dissolved in 180 ml, ethanol and upon addition of 1.5 g palladium on charcoal treated with hydrogen at a pressure of 5 bar. After removal of the catalyst the filtrate is evaporated on a rotavapor and the residue crystallized from acetonitrile. Yield of 4,5,7,8-tetrahydro-1H,6H-imidazo[4,5-d]azepine=59.3%.
