General procedure 3 (GP3) - preparation of meldrum acid derivatives:
General procedure: A RBF equipped with a stirring bar was charged with themalonic acid derivative 9 (1.0 equiv) and Ac2O (5-8 M), and cooled to 0 °C (ice/water bath). After the addition of 2-3 drops of concentrated H2SO4, acetone (1.1 equiv) was added dropwise to the stirred mixture with a pressure-equalizing dropping funnel. The reaction was allowed to warm to room temperature and stirred for 6 h. Then, the resulting mixture was placed in the refrigerator for 2 h,and the resulting solid was collected by filtration on a fritted funnel and rinsed with cold water (2 times) and Et2O (3 times). Traces of water were removed by addition of toluene (10 mL) and evaporation (3 times) to afford the desired product 7.
