Step 1: 2,5-dichloro-4-ethoxypyrimidine (1452) (1453) [00474] A solution of 2,4,5-trichloropyrimidine (1.00 g, 5.43 mmol) and CH3CH2ONa (0.73 g, 10.87 mmol) in EtOH (10 mL) was stirred at RT for 2 hours. The mixture was diluted with water (20 mL) and extracted with EtOAc (30 mL*2). The combined organic phase was washed with brine (30 mL), dried over Na2S04, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by flash (1454) chromatography on silica gel (PE/EtOAc = 10/1) to afford 2,5-dichloro-4-ethoxypyrimidine (0.95 g, 81%) as a white solid.
