b) Preparation of 2,6-dichlorobenzylsulfonylchloride The 2,6-dichlorobenzylthioacetate (29 g, 121 mmol) and sodium acetate (68 g) were dissolved in a mixture of glacial acetic acid (646 ml) and water (141 ml). Chlorine gas was passed into the solution for about 10 min. The mixture was evaporated and the residue was extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic phase was dried and concentrated to give the desired product (27 g, 86%). EI-MS m/z 260.5 (M+).
