Step B: A slurry of the product from Step A (2.35 g, 11.6 mmol) and platinum oxide (0.20 g) in absolute ethanol (20 mL) was hydrogenated at 40 psig for 4 h. The reaction was filtered throgh a plug of Celite, which was washed with additional absolute ethanol. The solvent was removed in vacuo leaving the amine product (1.97 g, 98%) as a white solid: mp 54-58° C.; ¹H NMR (300 MHz, CD₃OD) δ 7.01-6.98 (m, 2H), 6.87-6.81 (m, 1H), 4.70 (dd, J=8.2, 3.8 Hz, 1H), 2.90 (dd, J=13.0, 3.8 Hz, 1H), 2.76 (dd, J=13.0, 8.2 Hz, 1H).
