Tin(ll) chloride (20.25 g, 107 mmol) was added to a solution of 4-bromo-5-fluoro-2- nitrobenzoic acid (9.4 g, 35.6 mmol) in water (70 mL) and hydrochloric acid (70 mL) at room temperature and the reaction mixture was stirred at 90 °C for 3 hr. After cooling to room temperature, the formed precipitate was filtered, washed with water and collected to give 2-amino-4-bromo-5-fluorobenzoic acid, hydrochloride (8.5g, 31 .4 mmol, 88 % yield) as an off-white solid.
