To a solution of 2-ethylbenzonitrile (0.20 g, 1.52 mmol) in THF (8 ml_) cooled down to 5 °C with the aid of an external ice/water bath external ice/H20 bath, LiAIH4 (0.28 mg, 7.62 mmol) was added in portions. The reaction mixture was allowed to reach room temperature and stirred for 21 hour. H20 (3 ml_) and NaOH (1 ml_. Aqueous solution 36%) were added to the mixture and stirred for 5 min. The suspension was filtered through Celite washing with EtOAc (15 ml_). The mother liquors were concentrated to dryness to give a pink oil (140 mg). The product was used in the next step without additional purification.
