Stage #2: with diborane in tetrahydrofuran at 40; for 16 h;
Steps:
1 [2-methyl-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]methanol
To a stirred solution of 2-methyl-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid(1000 mg, 4.90 mmol, 1 equiv.) in THF (40 mL) at rt under nitrogen atmosphere. The reaction was stirred for 2 h at 0 degrees C. Then borane (14.7 mL) was added. The reaction mixture was stirred for 16 h at 40 degrees C. The reaction was monitored by LCMS. The reaction was quenched with MeOH at rt. The resulting mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure. This resulted in [2-methyl-4- (trifluoromethyl)phenyl]methanol(900 mg, 96.62%) as a light yellow oil.
