A mixture of 1-(2-bromo-ethyl)-5-bromomethyl-3-nitro-lH-pyrazole (1.5 g, 4.8 mmol),NHJH20 (8 mL) and MeOH (10 mL) was stirred at 50 °C for 16 hrs in sealed tube. The reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo to dryness to give 2-nitro-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-pyrazolo[l ,5-a]pyrazine (700 mg, yield: 87%) as a white solid.[001040]MS: m/z 169.0 (NI+I-r).
