Steps:

3.1.3. Synthesis of the Oximes 3a and 3b

General procedure: The appropriate aldehyde 2a or 2b (14 mmol) was dissolved in 50 mL of ethanol and treated with a solution of hydroxylamine hydrochloride (14.4 mmol) in 10 mL of water. In order to avoid the precipitation of the oxime as hydrochloride, the solution was treated with a few drops of 32% NH4OH (pH=6). The mixture was refluxed for 10 min. and,after cooling, the crude oxime was recovered by filtrationand crystallized from xylene (3a) or EtOH (3b).
