Steps:
3-(2-bromophenyl)propan-1-amine (5a)
Acetic acid (2.25 mL) was added to a solution of 4 (1.8 g, 7.89 mmol) and NaBH4 (1.5 mL, 39.5mmol) in dioxane (7.5 mL) at 0 °C. The mixture was refluxed for nine hours then the dioxane was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was extracted with diethylether and washed with H2O. The organic layer was dried over MgSO4 and the solvent was evaporated to afford a solid which was used without further purification or which was pure enough to be used in the next step (99%).
