To a solution of substituted benzoic acid inabsolute ethyl alcohol was slowly added thionyl chloride. The mixture was heated to reflux for 2h, and then cooledto room temperature. The solvent was removed and the solid residuewas dissolved in ethyl acetate, and washed withsaturated NaHCO₃ solution. After a series of reactions, 3-(2-chloro-phenyl)-pyrrolidine can be obtained.
