Step 4: 3-Azido-1-propanesulfonamide (1.5 g, 10.86 mmol; obtained from step 3) was dissolved in water/ethanol (10 mL/10 mL), followed by addition of 10% Pd/C (0.2 g). The resulting suspension was stirred under atmospheric pressure of H2 for 5 h. The insoluble material was removed by filtration; and the filtrate was concentrated. The residual material was suspended in hydrogen. The suspension was filtered and the resulting solid was washed with ethanol and diethyl ether, dried under high vacuum, affording 3-amino-1-propanesulfonamide (1.2 g, 80%).
