13.1 Synthesis of 3-bromopiperidine-2,6-dione a37Bromine (4.5 ml, 87.8 mmol) is added to a suspension of piperidine-2,6-dione a36 (10.2 g, 50.3 mmol) suspended in chloroform (20 ml) and the mixture is stirred in a closed vessel for 90 minutes at a bath temperature of 1 100C. After cooling, the vessel is opened and stirring is continued until no more hydrogen bromide escapes. The reaction mixture is evaporated in vacuo. The residue is dissolved in ethanol and evaporated to afford 17.1 g of 3-bromopiperidine-2,6-dione a37 as white crystals.Yield: 99 %.LC-MS (MH+): 193.
