3-Chloro-4-MethylphenylMagnesium bromide synthesis

2synthesis methods
-

Yield:-

Reaction Conditions:

in tetrahydrofuran at 20;Heating / reflux;

Steps:

1

Preparation of 3-chloro-4-methylphenyl magnesium bromide; Step 1 : Mg metal (3.7 equivalents) and tetrahydrofuran (THF) (36 L/kg of Mg) were added to a suitable reactor at ambient temperature.Step 2: A solution of 4-bromo-2-chlorotoluene (3.5 equivalents) in tetrahydrofuran(1.9 L THF /kg of 4-bromo-2-chlorotoluene) was added to the mixture from Step1. The rate of addition was controlled to avoid excessive refluxing due to heat evolution. Grignard reagent formation was complete when the refluxing subsided, at which time a small amount of Mg metal remained in an otherwise pale, clearGrignard reagent solution.
