(3) Synthesis of a 2-methyl-3-cyanomethylbenzothiophene To the above 2-methyl-3-chloromethylbenzothiophene were added 10 ml of water, 1.5 g of NaCN and 0.2 g of a tetra-n-butylammonium bromide. The mixture was refluxed for four hours. After cooled, 10 ml of a 5% NaOH was added thereto, the product was extracted with chloroform and was dried using the anhydrous magnesium sulfate. The solvent was distilled off, and the product was refined by the column chromatography using hexane and ester of acetoacetic acid as a developer to obtain 0.883 g of an object compound, yield 47.0%.
