To a mixture of nickel chloride hexahydrate (6.7 grams, 28.8 mmol) and 1- (2-FLUORO- 4-NITROPHENYL)-1H [1, 2,4]-triazole (3.0 grams, 14.4 mmol), obtained in preparation 34, in methanol (70 mL) was added sodium borohydride (1.65 grams, 43.3 mmol) in portion and stirred for 0.5 hours. The reaction mixture was then diluted with ethyl acetate (150 mL) and the organic layer was washed with water followed by brine and dried over sodium sulfate. Evaporation of volatiles yielded the title compound as light brown solid (2.2 grams, 85%). 'H NMR (CDC13) : 8 8.48 (d, J= 1.9 Hz, 1H), 8.11 (s, 1H), 7.54 (t, J= 8.5 Hz, 1H), 6.59 (s, 1H), 6.54 (d, J= 2.9 Hz, 1H), 4.01 (bs, 2H); MS (MULE) : 179 (M++1), 124; IR (KBR, CM ) : 3376,3225, 1630,1527.
