16.0 mL TFA are added to a solution cooled to 0° C. of 4.53 g (20.85 mmol) tert-butyl (2S,4R)-4-hydroxy-2-hydroxymethyl-pyrrolidine-1-carboxylate in 200 mL DCM and the reaction mixture is stirred overnight at RT. It is evaporated down i. vac. and the product is freeze-dried. The product is obtained as the trifluoroacetate salt. Yield: 4.73 g (96% of theoretical) C5H11NO2*C2HF3O2 (M=231.170) Calc.: molpeak (M+H)+: 118 Found: molpeak (M+H)+: 118 Rf value: 0.68 (silica gel, EtOAc/MeOH 9:1)
