EXAMPLE 97 4,4-Dimethyl-7-ethynyl-1-tetralone (L) To a solution of compound IL (1.24 g, 4.59 mmol), in absolute ethyl alcohol (8.0 mL) was added anhydrous potassium carbonate (170 mg, 1.21 mmol) at room temperature. After 2 h the reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo, diluted with saturated sodium bicarbonte (25 mL) and extracted with methylene chloride (2*25 mL). The organic phases were combined, concentrated in vacuo and the residue chromatographed on silica gel (eluted with 5% ethyl acetate in hexane) to give 694 mg (Y: 76%) of the title product; 1 H-NMR (CDCl3): δ8.15 (d, J=1.9 Hz, 1H), 7.62 (dd, J=8.2, 1.9 Hz, 1H), 7.39 (d, J=8.2 Hz, 1H), 3.07 (s, 1H), 2.73 (t, J=7.0 Hz, 2H), 2.02 (t, J=7.0 Hz, 2H), 1.39 (s, 6H); MS (DCI) m/e: 199 (MH+).
