3-29.a Example 3- 29(a): Synthesis of 3,3'-(propane-l,3-diylbis(piperidine-4,l- diyl))dipropanenitrile
Seven grams (7 g) of 4,4'-trimethylenedipiperdine was ground into a fine powder with mortar and pestle and suspended in 80 mL water. The slurry was heated to 40 °C and acrylonitrile was added dropwise to the reaction mixture. After completed addition the reaction was left for 1 hour and left to cool to room temperature. The product, which precipitates out, was filtered and washed with water followed by freezing and lyophilizing.
