Intermediate 38: 4'-(bromomethyl)-4-biphenvlcarbonitrile; To a solution of 4'-(hydroxymethyl)-4-biphenylcarbonitrile (Intermediate 36, 1.49 g, 7.2 mmol) in CH₂CI₂ (4OmL) cooled in a ice bath, was added dropwise PBr₃ (solution 1 M/CH₂CI₂, 3.56 ml_, 0.5 equiv.). The mixture was stirred at 0⁰C for 30 minutes, then at room temperature for 1 hour and then poured into water. After extraction with CH₂CI₂, the organic phase was dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. The title compound was obtained as a cream solid (1.8 g, yield: 92.82%). LC/MS: (M+H)= 273, Rt= 3.53min
