Step 1. (4-Bromophenyl)-piperidin-4-yl-methanone. [00533] To a well stirred solution of 1-[4-(4-bromobenzoyl)-piperidin-1-yl]- 2,2,2-trifluoroethanone (10.0 g, 27.5 mmol) in a mixture of methanol (50 mL) and water (3.00 mL) was added K₂CO₃ (7.59 g, 54.92 mmol). The reaction mixture was heated at 70 C for 2 h, then concentrated in vacuo, and partitioned between EtOAc and water. The aqueous layer was extracted twice (EtOAc) and the combined organics was washed with brine, dried, filtered, and concentrated to give 7.4 g (100%) of the desired product. LCMS m/z =268 (M⁺).
