To a solution of 8-phenyl-1,4- dioxaspiro[4.5]decan-8-ol (300 mg, 1.28 mmol) in THF (3 mL) was added HCl (3 mL,10% HCl in water). The reaction was stirred at 25°C for 16 hr. The reaction mixture was poured into water (10 mL) and extracted with ethyl acetate (5 mL x 3). The combined organic extracts were washed with brine (10 mL), dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated to dryness under reduced pressure to give the title compound (240 mg, 98%) as a white solid
