REFERENTIAL EXAMPLE 25 Production of 3-hydroxyphthalimide: 3.64 g (0.02 mole) of 3-hydroxyphthalic acid and 5.61 g (0.04 mole) of 25% aqueous ammonia were charged into a 50 ml SUS 314 stainless steel autoclave, and reacted with stirring at 190° C. for 6 hours. The reaction mixture was gradually cooled to room temperature, and then adjusted to pH 2 with concentrated hydrochloric acid. The crystals which precipitated were collected by suction-filtration and then dried in vacuum to give 1.45 g (yield 45%) of the desired compound. 1 H-NMR spectrum (CDCl3, δpm):
