[00364] 58D. 5-(bromomethyl)-4-methyl-2-phenylpyrimidine: To a stirred solution of (4-Methyl-2-phenyl-5-pyrimidinyl)methanol (89.6 mg, 0.447 mmol) and carbon tetrabromide (196 mg, 0.585 mmol) in dichloromethane (2.3 mL) at rt was added triphenylphosphine (152 mg, 0.573 mmol). The mixture was stirred at rt for 22.0 h and then evaporated. The residue was chromatographed (Si02 230-400 mesh, 3/2 CH2C12/Hex) to afford 58D (96 mg, 0.36 mmol, 81 % yield) as a white solid: LC-MS Anal.Calc'd for C12HuBrN2 262, found [M+H] = 263, 265.
