110 Preparation 110: 5-bromo-2-methyl-1,3-thiazole-4-carboxylic acid
To a mixture of ethyl 5-bromo-2-methyl-1 ,3-thiazole-4-carboxylate (p68, 0.41 g, 1.64 mmol) in 3.3 ml_ of EtOH was added at RT an aqueous solution of NaOH (3.3 ml_, 6.56 mmol, 2M). The resulting mixture was stirred at RT for 2 hours. Aqueous NH4CI ss and 1 .3 ml_ of HCI 6N were added to the mixture and then was extracted with EtOAc (4x). The collected organic layers were dried over Na2S04, filtered, concentrated under vacuum to give 5-bromo-2-methyl-1 ,3-thiazole-4-carboxylic acid (p1 10, 367 mg y=quant). MS (mlz): 223.9 [MH]+
