EXAMPLE 4 A mixture of 1 part anhydrous sodium sulfide, 6.6 parts of 4-chloro-N-phenylphthalimide and about 50 parts of DMF was stirred at 100° C for 16 hours under a nitrogen atmosphere. The solution was cooled to room temperature and the resulting precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with DMF, and dried to give 6.2 parts (95% yield) of 4,4'-bis(N-phenylphthalimide)sulfide identical to the product from Example 2.
