Steps:
Synthesis of 4-methoxy-6-Styryl-2H-pyran-2-ones (general procedure)
General procedure: Product III (5 mmol, 0.7 g) and KF-BaO (3 g) were added to the aromatic aldehyde (50 mmol) in minimum amount of methylene chloride. The solvent was evaporated at room temperature under reduced pressure and the process was activated by MWI in a microwave oven at 60 W for 5 min. The product was acidified with HCl, 20% (2 mmol). The residue was dissolved in 10 mL of CH2Cl2 and filtered off. The organic phase was washed with saturated NaCl solution and dried over MgSO4. The solid product was recrystallized from ethanol (0.5 g).
